Here we go, the sweet fruits of summer have arrived! Cherries top the list as one of our favorite stone fruits in the Kelly house. I typically have a bowl of these rosy-cheeked treats in the refrigerator for quick snacking – they’re sweet, juicy, and one of nature’s most beautiful seasonal fruits. Today we’re sharing our Cherry Kissed Quinoa Salad – perfect for a light meal, lunch, or snack.
What to consider when purchasing cherries:
- Cherries are typically only available between May and August.
- Cherries are listed as number 18 on the Environmental Working Group (EWG.org) “Shoppers Guide to Pesticide in Produce.”
- Conventional cherries are often coated with a fungicidal residue to help extend shelf life. This residue is difficult to wash off.
- Look for organic cherries that are firm, dark in color, and still have the stems attached.
