We made it to the end of another very busy week of volleyball practices, games, late night homework sessions, and new recipe creation in the Goofy Foot Foods kitchen. Because Simple Smoothies are a staple in the Kelly house, I thought it was only fitting to share a few of my fall favorites with you. Perhaps you have seen a few of these on Instagram, however, I typically don’t give out the exact recipe. For those of you interested, here you go…my take on a few fall favorite smoothies.
First, my favorite smoothie additions
1. Frozen Acai Packs from Sambazon: My favorite are the Acai Berry Pure Unsweetened frozen packs. You can find these at most markets in the freezer section.
“Powerful antioxidants and healthy omegas. Made with all organic and GMO-free ingredients sustainably sourced in the Brazilian Amazon. Epic flavor from the Amazon. Perfect for making smoothies and authentic açaí bowls or enjoying straight out of the pack as a popsicle. Unsweetened for those sensitive to sugar.” -Sambazon
2. Vegan Protein Powder from Sunwarrior: My favorite is the Natural Warrior Blend. Sunwarrior offers a few different high-quality vegan protein powders, however, I really appreciate the natural blend. It’s a simple blend without any sweeteners and no stevia. I know many of you LOVE stevia, however, I’m just not a fan. I like controlling my own sweetness levels – some days I’m down for a sweet smoothie, and other days, I just need to keep it really simple. More protein and less sweetness.
“Warrior Blend fuses and multiplies the power of several rich, raw protein sources into a smooth, great tasting, and revolutionary proprietary formula that is overwhelmingly superior to the individual components alone. This dynamic fusion, along with a cold extraction process, creates a unique, raw, plant-based protein with a complete amino acid profile exceptionally high in Arginine, Lysine, Leucine, and branched chain amino acids.” -Sunwarrior
3. Frozen Pitaya Packs from Pitaya Plus: Pitaya (also known as Dragon Fruit) is one of the most vibrant colored plants in the world. Take a look at our Pink Pitaya Bowls and I’m sure you will agree, these beautiful bowls are sure to impress your friends and family.
“Pitaya was first discovered in Central America centuries ago and has traveled to all corners of the globe. Early missionaries brought Pitaya to Asia where it has since been renamed and is more commonly known as Dragon Fruit.” -Pitaya Plus
4. Hemp Seeds from Sunfood Superfoods: Hemp seeds are a tiny powerhouse of nutrition with a mild taste. These little hulled seeds provide premium plant protein with all essential amino acids. They also offer valuable essential fatty acids and fiber, making them the perfect addition to any smoothie.
“Raw and certified organic, our Shelled Hemp Seeds are an environmentally friendly product that are sustainably grown without the use of pesticides or herbicides. They are carefully manufactured using a cold process to ensure delicate enzymes and nutrients remain intact to bring you the highest quality, purest hemp seeds available.” -Sunfood
5. Maca Powder from Sunfood Superfoods: Maca root is grown in the high elevations of the Peruvian Andes and as been used for thousands of years to increase strength and stamina. I find a little goes a long way. Just one tablespoon works great for me. Everyone is different, therefore, some folks tolerate more and some less.
“Maca is a root vegetable grown in the Peruvian Andes. It was sacred to the Incas and has been used as a food and medicine in South America for centuries. It is well known for its ability to help enhance strength and endurance. In fact, Incan warriors would often consume maca before long journeys and battles. Maca Extreme® is a micro-pulverized, highly absorbable, 4:1 concentration of the most important elements in maca—a little goes a long way! Maca Extreme® contains less starch than standard maca, making it ideal for those with difficulty digesting cruciferous vegetables.” -Sunfood
6. Pitted Medjool Dates: Dates are not only a great way to sweeten up a smoothie, but provide dietary fiber, vitamin A, magnesium and B vitamins. Quick tip: If you don’t have time to make a smoothie, simply pit the date and fill it with a spoonful of NuttZo nut butter. (or any nut butter of your choice – for those with nut sensitivities, try sunflower seed butter instead).
