What an exceptional day I had last Friday in my sweet little town of Encinitas! The day started off with my group of like-minded mommies, tea-lovers, and friends at Lofty Coffee Roasting Works (across the street from the Original Lofty Coffee, next to Rhino Art). We love gathering on a Friday morning to chat about our lives, health, children, and food. After a beautiful morning of friendship, I ended up at Peace Pies for lunch with my oldest daughter Megan. If you know about Peace Pies, you know the entire menu is raw, vegan, gluten-free and soy-free. A perfect match for my sweet baby girl, who after her third year in college, ended up with Celiac Disease. The only relief she has gotten is to adhere to a strict vegan and gluten-free diet. It’s not easy finding food, even in Encinitas, that doesn’t contain gluten, dairy, or soy – all triggers for her disease. Peace Pies is a safe-haven for those seeking relief from health issues, especially as they relate to digestive issues. All of the menu items are thoughtfully created and prepared from raw (living) foods that are not only nutrient-dense but contain active, life-giving enzymes for optimal digestion.
The Peace Pies Philosophy
“Peace Pies is committed to providing Raw/Vegan/Gluten and Soy-Free foods to all. We offer a full menu consisting of pies, pizzas, salads, wraps, entrees, dried goods, desserts, chocolates and accessories to aid in the live food lifestyle. We have built strong relationships with numerous local farms who supply us with the freshest local ingredients. We are constantly creating new recipes to keep things new and exciting. We practice a strict Zero-waste policy, including composting of our food scraps and using earth-friendly packaging.”
The Encinitas location of Peace Pies is such a quaint little place with a sunny patio for outdoor dining. Megan and I were greeted by Ashely Disharoon (Ash), a sweetheart and someone extremely knowledgeable about raw, living foods. For more about Ashley, check out her blog Cacao Bloom or find her at the newly opened Cacao Oasis Elixir Bar on Sundays next to Peace Pies in Ocean Beach.
The food: Megan and I ordered a Tasty Taco salad, Peace Pizza, and Snickerdoodle Cheescake for dessert. All three were DELICIOUS!
It’s difficult to choose a favorite from this lunch, but I would have to say the Snickerdoodle “cheesecake” knocked it out of the park for me. It was creative, creamy and the perfect end to my lunch date with Megan. Amazing food that is both good for the soul and the body! Loved every bite!
