Plant-Based Teen Cooking Camp

June 13, 2014 By Kris Kelly

Making changes to our diet is not always easy and typically comes with a price.  The price is letting go of what we think we know about food and allowing ourselves – and our children – the freedom to ask questions, explore new ideas, and take a stance for our health and the health of our planet.  Hmm…sounds simple, however food is a hot button for most families. The typical meal is no longer based on tradition, it’s typically based on how quickly it can reach the table.  Goofy Foot Foods Plant-Based Teen Cooking Camps are designed to give teens, ages 12-18 the chance to experience and explore plants as a base for a healthy diet.  We focus on easy superfood recipes to get you out-the-door and to your next activity quickly.

Green Colada Smoothie  Unfortunately, what my generation was fed (born in the 60’s) is completely different from what my mother or grandmother’s generation was fed.  Farm-fresh no longer means your food was grown on a pristine farm, surrounded by rolling hills, buzzing bees, tweeting birds, and wild flowers popping up in the fields.  These images are truly that…just a picture made in Photoshop and placed on a package label.

We love sharing the truth about what’s in our food, and give real solutions to reducing processed and packaged foods in the diet.  Beginning on a Monday morning, the kids typically walk in a bit nervous and shy – cell phones in hand in case they need to bail – not knowing what to expect, or if they’ll even like what we’re about to create.  The greatest joy is watching a lightbulb go on.  By the end of our four days together, these young people are empowered with the skills needed to make breakfasts, snacks, and even full meals that are completely plant-based, and free from gluten, dairy, GMO’s, and pesticides.  Now that is “JOY RISING” -Oprah Winfrey Plant-Based Cooking Camp

Just a few of the recipes created over our four days together.
