I make smoothies at least 5 times a week for my family, and typically serve them for breakfast or lunch. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know that superfood smoothies are one of my favorite nutrient-packed meals. After being asked to speak at a local National Charity league meeting regarding the benefits of adding plants and superfoods to our diet; I was excited to come up with a delicious smoothie recipe to demonstrate how easy it is to incorporate these foods into our lives. Thanks to all of the sweet young ladies who helped make the Triple Berry Smoothie a success.
What exactly are superfood smoothies, and why are they all the rage right now? Superfoods are functional foods with especially high amounts of micronutrients compared to calories. These foods, rich in phytonutrients and antioxidants, are found all around the world and work extremely well in smoothies.
What superfoods are in our Triple Berry Smoothie? Strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries – all rich in flavonoids. Cacao nibs: Cacao nibs are high in magnesium and antioxidants. Maqui Powder: Maqui berries have been found to have an incredibly high ORAC value (measures the antioxidant capacity of foods) – more than four times higher than blueberries and twice as much as acai berries.- 2 cups almond milk
- 1 cup frozen mixed berries (strawberry, blackberry, blueberry)
- 1 large frozen banana
- 1 tablespoon cacao nibs
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened shredded coconut
- 1 teaspoon maqui powder
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
